Jowar is rated among the top five healthy grains in the world. Jowar is also known as sorghum in English has lately become the ‘new quinoa’ due to its gluten-free property and the innumerable health benefits that it provides.
Earlier jowar was used in food made for animals but now people have started incorporating it in their diet due to its incredible health benefits. Here we bring to you a long list of benefits that jowar provides:

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup jowar flour / sorghum flour / jolada hittu
  • ¾ cup hot wateror as required to knead dough
  • ½ cup jowar flour / sorghum flour / jolada hittufor dusting

INSTRUCTIONS

  • firstly, in a large mixing bowl or Kadai take jowar flour and make a well in the center.
  • furthermore, add ¾ cup hot water and knead to smooth dough.
  • take a small ball sized dough and make a ball out of it.
  • further, pat and flatten with the help of palm and finger.
  • also, dust the work station with little jowar flour to prevent roti from sticking while patting.
  • now pat gently with one hand and the other over the side to get the round shape.
  • make sure to dust with jowar flour if required.
  • further, with both the hands pat as thin as possible.
  • also, dust off excess flour from the roti.
  • furthermore, put the flattened dough onto the hot Tawa.
  • now spread water over the roti with help of a hand or wet cloth removing excess dough.
  • wait until the water evaporates then flip it to the other side.
  • press gently and cook all the sides.
  • finally serve jolada rotlo / jowar roti recipe / jowar bhakri with ennegai or dry garlic chutney.

How to make jowar rotlo or jowar bhakri step by step recipe:

  1. firstly, in a large mixing bowl or kadai take jowar flour and make a well in the centre.

  3. also add more water in batches as required and knead to smooth dough.
  4. once the dough is smooth and soft pliable dough, take it on to the work station and knead further.

  6. take a small ball sized dough and make a ball out of it.
  7. further, pat and flatten with the help of palm and finger.
  8. also dust the work station with little jowar flour to prevent roti from sticking while patting.

Notes:

  • firstly, sieve the jowar flour to filter out impurities.
  • furthermore, add a pinch of salt to the flour. however, in authentic version we do not add salt.
  • also, make sure to knead the dough well else there will be cracks while patting rotti.
  • most noteworthy, if there are cracks forming while patting roti, take some hot water and knead the dough further.
  • finally, jolada rotlo / jowar roti recipe / jowar bhakri  taste great when patted with hands rather then prepared with rolling pin.
